hey guys. newbie in the forum. well introduced by chris into this forum, same with some others i guess. i haven't got a bike yet but i'm dying to get one. money is always an issue for us uni student isn't it? anyway anyone heard bout any sweet deal on bike let me know. i'm super interested. and if you guys organizing a long ride, super super interested too. thanks

 

hi every one just sighned up i have 2 suzuki across 1995 one is on the road and the other should be next week except having a few problems with the carbs?when the cluch is engauged and go to ride it has no power and have to ride  the clutch to get it to move,even if on full throt it goes no where any ideas?

I only got my 250cc and under RE licence just over a month ago. I live in NOR Perth, WA.
This is my first 250cc forum i have joined and it's been very useful and informative.
I ride a 1990 Suzuki Across it's my brother in laws which he bought to learn on, but he very rarely rides so it's been at my house since and i've been riding it nearly everyday.

Since the first start when i was learning i didn't know what to expect from a 250cc and as i became more confident to rev it all the way down the rev range to redline in first few gears, i realised it just wasn't going as much as i thought. Till this point i don't even know if i'm actually losing power or that's the speed of 250's, i feel like peak power is at 7000rpm nd the technical specifications of a across say peak power at 45PS @ 12000rpm or something around there, so it came to my attention that maybe i was losing power as power definitely went very flat after 7000-8000rpm.

I've been posting up in the Suzuki Threads and Chris and Phil have been very helpful with each response, i'm turning 21 this year and have been playing around with cars for the past 3 years so i've never had mechanical knowledge on motorbikes but i've been told it's about 10 times easier as there is less to play around with. This is the first time i have ever had a carby as my car is EFI, so it's been all new to me and i'm still learning as there is lots to learn!  :o

Since i've had my bike license, i've even bought a small trail bike, 250cc Atomik dirt bike to try to get my missus to learn but the seat is way too high and i guess i have to sell it and let her learn on a 125 or 140cc pit bike instead.

I'm very keen on test riding the new CBR250R, but if i don't like it much i will rather save towards a 1990-1994 CBR250RR as every single review i have read just has very positive comments, another bike i've viewed is a Yamaha FZR250RR (They have common flooding issues, i think it's more to do with such high idle (Tacho only starts at 3000rpm and idles at 3500rpm). The CBR250RR just has so much support with parts and holds it's value pretty well, if the new cbr250R lowers the average price of the older 250RR's it would be a bonus for me  ;D.

I've done everything i can to try to fix the across with changing new plugs/air and oil filter/oil flush/cleaned. I'm not advised to send it to a workshop to get it balanced and synchronized, being a 41000km i assumed it would probably need a rebuild and a good clean so instead i bought low km 25000km carbys that were balanced prior to removing to do a straight swap of carburetors for $120, labour would most likely be $100-$120 and i'm not guranteed that it would be fixed so i found if bike still played up i would have spare carbys for parts or re-sell it later.

I have just got my L's and my first road bike the other week.

I have a QJ 250 supershadow and I am very pleased with it so far.

I would love to get an classic bike and restore it when I have the space and time.

But that will be a little while yet but I am looking now.

 

From one Phil to another I say welcome to the forum. Very much looking forward to some pictures of your bike and your impressions as it's a cycle I am not familiar with. The photo's that I have seen reminds me of the Yamaha Virago, a very good cycle. Once again, welcome

Blake here from Brissy, just wanted to say G-Day to all.
I ride a 2011 Megelli 250s to comute to work each day, and the odd spirited run up the mountains.
It's my first road bike so I wanted something easy to ride.
I've only had it for a few months now so I can't comment too much about it just yet.

Good too see a 250 forum, cause we often get overlooked from the big powerful sportsbike guys and hey we all gotta start somewhere.

Welcome on board and good luck with your purchase. You have good taste as you've chosen 2 great bikes. I had always been a Suzuki fan, but sure was impressed with the kawasaki.

Gidday all, lens the name and I love 250's. I started off on a cbr250rr ( best 250 ever), then moved on to a rgv 2 stroke until they changed the laws on me. And now I have a fzr 250. I love rebuilding 2 stroke engines and tinkering with my bike.

Hopefully this forum can organize some local 250 rides in the future.
