From my understanding 2 turns out should be leaner. Zxr carbs don't have a needle clip. What are we missing? Are your pilot screws complete? With the spring, little washer and orings? What was the bike running like before the stutter started Again? Was it returning to idle really fast and dipping under idle then rising?
Interesting ...... I notice here on the A model schematic (now Ive bothered to look !) that theres different needles for the outer and inner carbs ...?? Yea good point mate ..... this crossed my mind also ...... and are they in the right order ...?
I turned the pilot screws to 2.5 turns. I don't know what's been modified on the bike, as far as I know everything is stock except for the main jets which are 125, 128 , 128, 125. I didn't think that would be much of a problem because I have an aftermarket exhaust. The airfilter is an OEM replacement. I'll try running it without the filter. Does anyone know where I can get a carb rebuild kit (Seals, jets, needles, floats, everything else etc)?
Sorry for the delayed reply. I knew there were different jets for inside and outside. Are there any decernable differences between the needles that I can use the find which ones are which. I've never noticed a difference, I might have put them in incorrectly. Also the pilot scores have the springs, washer and o-ring. Could my oversized jets cause it to run extremely rich?
Just out of curiosity since your bike is a bitser can you get us Th e engine number and also the cdi number, you might have the wrong cdi for engine as well.
Litetek.co do a full seal kit, these guys do a carby kit, but do not have all the seals that the Litetek kit does C model carbs 1 and 4 http://www.motorcyclespareswarehouse.com.au/products/kk-0174ns-carb-repair-and-parts-kit C model carbs 2 and 3 - http://www.motorcyclespareswarehouse.com.au/products/kk-0174nu You will need 2 kits of each
The previous owner installed the 125, 128, 128, 125 jets. As far as I can see the only other mods is the exhaust. Where do i find the CDI number?
On the Cdi it should be behind the right hand rear fairing. Am I right in saying you believe the engine is from an a model zxr250.
I think it's an A model engine. The previous owner was sure that it was an 'Unrestricted' engine, I have his old receipts from when he had to replace the engine. It does say the engine was from a 1991 Zx2R. What are the main differences between the two, any way I can find out for sure?
Engine number. On the outside of the engine you can't really tell they are the same casing but inside have different cams and rods so different timing.
It's been a while. I solved the problem. I saved up some cash for a few weeks and just went out and bought a reco'd carby. She's been running perfectly for the past day or two, tiny bit of a flat spot, but no stutter or stalls. The spark plugs are a tan brown. everything seems to be running perfectly. Now I need to see if I can fix the old carbies.
You should have no problem with that task, no pressure as you are mobile so take your time and enjoy your bike.
Well, I went for my Q-Ride course yesterday and passed everything except the figure 8's. The bike low sided and I couldn't continue because of the smashed up front and side fairings. How would you guys go about patching this up?
